MY Consultants
Principal Investigator Training
MY Consultants has worked with a number of UK HEIs (Glasgow, St Andrews, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Durham) to support the development of Principal Investigators. Programmes (which can be from 1-4 days in duration) are designed in collaboration with the institution and typically explore:
- The roles and responsibilities of the PI
- Exploring each individuals approach to management through the use of Psychometric tools such as MBTI and FIRO-Element B
- Skills and techniques for PIs to support project management, budgeting, and project delivery.
- People management skills including building effective research teams, motivating staff, giving effective feedback and the management of conflict within the workplace.
- The role of the PI in supporting the career development of research staff.
- Strategies for managing their own careers including networking, publication and funding strategies.
A previous participant says:
"As a research fellow, the timing of the PI programme was ideal. It covered the major landmarks in the management of people and systems and was a significant 'light bulb' moment in my personal development; I now look at the world in a different way and feel privileged to have access to these tools to help me a more effective researcher, PI and manager."
